Convex - Axial feeding knurls have greatly improved the ability to produce quality-knurled parts. Our Metric convex knurl 20 x 6 x 6 is made in HSS with super smooth polished tooth profile and "Nitrowear" or other premium coating. Our inch convex knurls are made from hi-cobalt steel with super smooth polished tooth profile with "TIN" coating. The unique full form radiused edges of the wheels significantly reduce the knurling forces in both the "X" and "Z" axis, as compared to using a standard knurl with a chamfer on the edges. Also, because of the smaller surface area on first contact, these tools normally penetrate deeper into the workpiece on the first revolution, which tends to reduce "double tracking" problems. The above typically results in longer tool life, better looking parts and higher productivity.

This type of knurling wheel is designed only for axially feeding to produce a knurl length that is wider than the wheel being used. If the diameter of the part is less than 12mm, we would normally recommend using a straddle type two die holder.
